Omega-3

Omegas are vital to a longer life as your body needs fatty acids to survive.

What is omega-3?

Omega-3 refers to a group of essential fatty acids that your body needs but cannot produce on its own. This means they must come from food or supplements. They are called “essential” because they are fundamental for survival and play a structural role in every cell membrane in your body. The three main types of omega-3 are:

ALA (alpha-linolenic acid)

Found in plant foods like flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts. The body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA – but only in very small amounts.

EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)

Primarily found in fatty fish and seafood, and some algae. EPA supports heart health and helps maintain a balanced inflammatory response.

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)

Found in fish and algae. DHA is a major structural component of the brain, retina, and nervous system.

Benefits of omega-3 fatty acids

  • Maintain healthy heart & blood vessel function
  • Promote brain, cognitive & mental health
  • Contribute to normal vision & longevity
  • Help fight inflammation, supporting whole-body health, e.g., joints

Because modern diets are often low in seafood and high in omega-6 fats, many people do not achieve an optimal omega-3 intake, making supplementation a practical and reliable way to restore balance.
